LUTHERAN WORLD RELIEF INFORMATION

You will also find “shopping lists” for the Baby Care Kits and School Kits posted on the bulletin board there as well. Please feel free to pick up a copy of the new guide and/or a Shopping List.

Baby Care Kits offer hope, comfort, and dignity for mothers in poverty giving birth to a child. The items included in a Baby Care Kit provide the things a mother needs to care for her baby the way she hopes to – soft blankets to give warmth and comfort, soap to keep germs away. The clothes in the Baby Care Kit welcome both mother and baby out into the world.

Each Baby Care Kit includes the following items:

    • Two lightweight cotton T-shirts (no Onesies)
    • Two long or short-sleeved gowns or sleepers (without feet)
    • Two receiving blankets, medium-weight cotton or crocheted or knitted with lightweight yarn.
    • Four cloth diapers, flat fold preferred
    • One jacket, sweater or sweatshirt with a hood, or include a baby cap
    • Two pairs of socks
    • One hand towel, dark color recommended
    • Two or three bath-size bars of gentle soap equaling 8 to 9 oz., any brand, in original wrapping; no mini or hotel size bars
    • two diaper pins or large safety pins

He will feed his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms, and carry them in his bosom, and gently lead the mother sheep.” Isaiah 40:11

School Kits contain essential supplies to help children – and in some cases, adults – continue learning despite the hardships they face. That learning leads to a better life for them, their families and their communities.

Each School Kit includes the following items

    • Four 70-sheet notebooks (280-300 sheets total) of wide- or college-ruled paper approximately

8 x 10 ½ inches. No loose-leaf paper.

    • One 30-centimeter ruler, or a ruler with centimeters on one side and inches on the other
    • One pencil sharpener
    • One pair of blunt scissors (safety scissors with embedded steel blades work well)
    • Five unsharpened #2 pencils with erasers; secure together with a rubber band
    • Five black or blue ballpoint pens (no gel ink); secure together with a rubber band
    • One box of 16-24 crayons
    • One 2 ½ inch eraser
    • *One sturdy drawstring backpack-style cloth bag approximately 14 x 17 inches with shoulder straps (no standard backpacks); recommended fabrics include sturdy cotton, canvas, denim, and twill.

*NOTE: PLCW has purchased 150 back packs for packing the kits – they will be available on a rack by the elevator on the main level. They are a bright lime green color – you can't miss them.

Give instruction to the wise, and they will become wiser still; teach the righteous and they will gain in learning.” Proverbs 9:9
